Presenting Percy pencilled in for Punchy

Owner Philip Reynolds has mooted the John Durkan Chase at Punchestown as a starting point for Presenting Percy.

Having had just one prior outing over hurdles , he could only finish eighth although the eight-year-old was sent off favourite for the Gold Cup.
Problems were discovered that prevented him from running , but those have been solved.
Reynolds advised the Irish Field:”it is a case of so far, so great. Pat (Kelly, coach ) and Jerry Kelly (vet) are contented with him and as soon as they are glad that’ll do me.
“He had a small process to remove fluid from his spine and I don’t know whether that had anything to do with how he conducted Cheltenham. We also found he had bone bruising post Cheltenham.
“He’s starting off the season just like everyone and the fact is that he might just be”a different horse”.
“This time last year I could not lie straight in bed with enthusiasm. I think the best chance a horse has of winning a Gold Cup would be right after their novice season. He will be meeting with all last seasons novices, along with Al Boum Photo, so we’ll just have to see where he fits in.
“It’s a bit early to say where he’ll start back. Everything has to be suitable for him, although we’ll get started before Christmas.
“Clonmel will come for him personally , as will Down Royal, therefore I suppose you might be looking at exactly the John Durkan in Punchestown. Then remains to be seen where he would go there is a lot of water.
“I only hope we do not have another winter like last year – the ground was fast all winter along with a repeat would be a disaster.”
