Because he struggles for his life following their departure in 25, boxer Charles Conwell has written an emotional letter to his injured competitor Patrick Day.
Day, 27, is in a coma inan extremely critical condition after enduring a significant brain injury.
He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital following a 10th-round knockout from the super-welterweight struggle.
I never intended that to happen to youpersonally, all I wanted to do was to win, composed Days American compatriot Conwell, 21.
When I could take it back, then I would. No-one deserves this to occur to them.
Conwell posted a URL to the letter on websites with all the hashtag #champpatrickday.
He said this would be the final time he talked on the subject as it had beena sensitive topic for Days family and friends, himself and the game of boxing.
I replay the struggle repeatedly in my mind thinking what if this never happened and why did it happen to you, said Conwell.
I cant quit thinking about it myself. Since I couldnt even imagine the way my loved ones members and friends would believe I prayed for you and lose many tears.
I find you everywhere you go and everything I hear is fantastic things about you personally.
I thought about quitting boxing however I know that is not what youd want.
I understand that youre a fighter at heart so I decided not to, and also to struggle and win a domain because that is exactly what you wanted and that is exactly what I want so I will use you as inspiration daily and make sure I leave everything in the ring every moment.
He signs off with #ChampPatrickDay. With compassion. Charles Conwell.
Days coach Joe Higgins replied:Thanks for your kind words. Patrick was born throughout the street from me our relationship is unique.
He would have wanted you to last. Im really rooting for you to get to your dream, the one he had.
I too am educated because Im responsible but do realise there is no fault. Stay strong and please dont think we blame you.
