David Warner created his first century because his year ban from cricket as his 151 not out gave Australia hands against Pakistan in the first Test.
The 33-year-old appeared to be caught behind in the Gabba, however, the delivery of 16-year-old bowler Naseem Shah was ruled a no-ball on playoff.
Warner survived another scare if he was nearly run out by a direct hit against the deep in Brisbane.
However, Australia ended the day on top, 72 runs ahead with two wickets in hand.
Warner, who believed only 95 runs in 10 innings in last summers Ashes seriesmade a Test century against England at the 2017 Boxing Day Test.
He has spent much of the intervening interval on the worldwide sidelines after being banned against South Africa for 12 months for ball-tampering.
He was ably supported by fellow opener Joe Burns, that fell three runs short of their own century later having deceived by the leg break of Yasir Shah.
That opening of 222 pulled Australia within sight of Marnus Labuschagnes assured 55 and Pakistans first-innings total out not pushed the game out of the vacationers reach.
