Roman aims to conquer Moulin

Ken Condon believes Romanised is at the top of the game Before the return to France to the Prix du Moulin in ParisLongchamp on Sunday.

A surprise winner of last year Guineas, Holy Roman Emperor’s son fought to earn a significant impact throughout the remainder of his three-year-old effort, but has found his stride this season.
Following fine efforts in defeat from the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot and the Lockinge in Newbury, the charge of Condon rediscovered the winning path in the Group Two Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh before slashing his top notch tally.
With stable company Success Days for business once more, Romanised spans the Channel for a second Group One mission that weekend, and his trainer has been relishing the challenge.
“He appears very well. We have had four weeks since the Marois and we all think he’s heading back to France in very similar condition,” stated the Rathbride-based trainer.
“Longchamp presents a different test, but we’re very satisfied with him and it seems as if the floor will be someplace near great, which is essential to this horse. We didn’t need to wait till October, when the ground might have gone .
“As I mention, this will be a different test to Deauville, but we are only focusing on trying to get the most out of our horse on the day and we’ll see where that happens ”
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Circus Maximus also carries irish hopes.
After fading at York on his latest 36, the St James’s Palace Stakes winner and Sussex Stakes runner-up yields to a mile.
A battle is made up Of Spain, Charlie Appleby’s Line Of Duty, Harry Dunlop’s stable star Robin Of Navan and Kick On from John Gosden’s lawn.
Phoenix Of Spain kicked off his campaign with a superb front-running victory from the Irish Guineas, however, has since failed to conduct up to expectations in Goodwood and Royal Ascot.
“I made the choice to run him and I have been really pleased with him the last few weeks,” said Hills.
“Jamie (Spencer) came and sat on him last week and he was happy also. It looks like a race we must maintain.”
Romanised from the renews and Marois rivalry Of Duty beat just over a length line.
Appleby said:”It was a very good run at Deauville about which his initial start above a distance this year.
“He’s up against the very first and the second from the Marois, so he has that gap to close, but we’ve been really happy with him because and a bit of rain wouldn’t do him any harm.”
Robin Of Navan measures back up in grade after winning a Group Two in Germany.
“He has been ticking along well and we’re happy with him. We put the cheekpieces on him in Germany and it appeared to actually sharpen up him and he adored that race,” said Dunlop.
“I know the caliber of that race isn’t as fantastic as the Moulin, but we’ve Christophe Soumillon booked to ride and palms crossed the old boy would do himself pleased.”
Kick On was last seen winning the Group Three Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury, also Gosden said:”There is not really a Group 2 for him, so we thought we would roll the dice at a Group One.
“He ran well in the Guineas. It was great to see him put his head back ahead at Salisbury which could have done his confidence ”
The field is completed by last year’s French 2000 Guineas hero Olmedo (Jean-Claude Rouget), Marois runner-up Shaman (Carlos Laffon-Parias) and the Prince Khalid Abdullah-owned pair of Obligate (Pascal Bary) and Delaware (Andre Fabre).
Obligate won his first three starts before finishing third against the Group One winner Laurens at the Prix Rothschild at Deauville, while Delaware measures up in class after Listed and Group Three wins his very last couple of appearances.
Fabre stated:”He is progressing nicely, but that really is a big step up for him personally. I am hoping he’ll run well, but we’ll see how he gets .
“He’s associated with Byword so I understand the family – he is a powerful horse.
“We’re just hoping for good ground. He won on soft time, but he’s better on good.”
According to the card, the Al Dabaran of Appleby sets his unbeaten record on the line in the Group Three Prix des Chenes.
An impressive winner in his debut at Newmarket, the son of Dubawi goes in search of the hat-trick that weekend and followed up at Ascot in July that was late.
“He’s in good order and we’re excited about stepping him up to the mile,” said Appleby of his charge, who’s a general 33-1 opportunity for Vintage honours next year.
“The speed angle may be the worry – we might have to make our own pace. We’ll see how it goes.
“Hopefully this is a wonderful improvement for him we look at mile-and-a-quarter and even mile-and-a-half races for him next year.”
