Marcus Edwards, who was compared to Lionel Messi by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, looks set to join an Portuguese club on a permanent thing.
Where he made 25 appearances for Excelsior, the midfielder needed a loan stint from the Netherlands last year.
He also had a loan spell in Norwich at the beginning of this past year, but made one Championship appearance for Daniel Farke’s side.
The 20-year-old has been the best scorer in 2017/18 in the U19 UEFA Youth League with four goals in six starts through the group phase, and is under contract until 2020.
He scored a further five goals from nine Premier League 2 looks.
Edwards has represented England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels – winning the European U19 Championship using the Young Lions at Georgia at 2017.
