As he fights for his life boxer Charles Conwell has composed an emotional letter.
Day, 27, is in a slump ina very critical illness after enduring a serious brain injury.
He had been taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after a 10th-round knockout in the super-welterweight battle.
I never intended this to happen to youpersonally, all I wanted to do was win, composed Days American compatriot Conwell, 21.
When I could take it all back, I would. No-one deserves this to happen to them.
Conwell posted a link to the correspondence on social media.
He said this would be the final time he spoke on the subject since it wasa sensitive topic to Days loved ones members and friends, the game of boxing.
I replay the fight repeatedly in my mind thinking what if this never happened and why did it happen to you, said Conwell.
I can not stop thinking about it . Because I could imagine how my family and friends would sense I prayed for you a lot of times and lose many tears.
I find you anywhere you go and everything I hear will be fantastic things about you personally.
I thought of quitting boxing however I know thats not what you would want.
I understand that you were a fighter at heart so I decided to not, and also to fight and win a world title because that is what you wanted and that is what I need so I will work with you as motivation daily and make sure I leave it all in the ring each time.
He signs off with #ChampPatrickDay. With empathy. Charles Conwell.
Days coach Joe Higgins replied:Thank you for the kind words. our relationship is special, patrick was born throughout the road from me.
Hed have needed you to continue. Im really rooting for you to accomplish your dream, the one he had.
I also am educated because I feel responsible but do realise there is no fault. Remain strong and please dont think we blame you.
