Boxer Charles Conwell has composed an emotional letter to his competitor Patrick Day that was injured because he fights for his life following their bout in Chicago.
Day, 27, is in a coma ina very critical condition after enduring a serious brain injury.
He had been taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after a 10th-round knockout in the super-welterweight battle.
I never intended that to happen to youpersonally, all I wished to do was to win, wrote Days American compatriot Conwell, 21.
If I could take it back, then I would. No-one warrants this to occur to them
Conwell posted a link together with the to the letter on social media.
He said this would be the last time he spoke on the thing because it had beena sensitive subject to Days relatives and friends, the sport of boxing.
I replay the fight again and again in my mind thinking what if this happened and why did it happen to you, said Conwell.
I can not stop thinking about it myself. Since I could imagine the way my family members and friends would sense I longed for you and shed many tears.
I find you everywhere you go and that I hear is wonderful things about you personally.
I thought of quitting boxing however I know thats not what you would want.
I know that you were a fighter at heart so I chose not to, and also to struggle and win a domain because that is exactly what you wanted and that is exactly what I need so that I will use you as motivation daily and make sure I leave it all in the ring every moment.
He signs off with #ChampPatrickDay. With empathy. Charles Conwell.
Days coach Joe Higgins replied:Thanks for the kind words. So our relationship is special patrick was born throughout the street from me.
He would have needed you to continue. I am really rooting for you to attain your fantasy.
I too am distraught because I feel responsible but do realize there isnt any fault. Stay strong and dont think we blame you.
